Call for Applications for CHANS Fellowships

With support from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the International Network of Research on Coupled Human and Natural Systems (CHANS-Net) is pleased to call for applications for the CHANS Fellowships. The selected CHANS Fellows will attend the symposium at the annual meeting of US-IALE (U.S. Regional Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology)in Athens, Georgia, from April 5-9, 2010. They will have opportunities to interact with the speakers at the symposium who are active leaders in CHANS research, to learn the latest developments in CHANS research, and to build professional networks with other attendees.

Approximately 10 fellowships (up to $1,000 each) will be given for the selected graduate students, postdoctoral associates, junior faculty members, and/or other junior researchers in other institutions to defray expenses associated with attending the meeting. Applications will be judged on the merits of the applicants' abstracts, financial need, and professional backgrounds and goals. Former award recipients are not eligible to apply. Members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Please note that there are no nationality or residence requirements for the Fellowship. The information on race/ethnicity is collected in order to report on the Network's efforts to broaden and diversify the CHANS research community.

Preference will be given to US-IALE members. To join US-IALE or renew membership, please visit http://www.usiale.org/index.php?id=membership. Annual membership costs only $30 for students and $45 for non-students. For those in developing countries who have no means to pay the membership dues, please make an explicit statement in their application letters.
