Research Interest:
I am interested in the interactions between human land-use
practices and changes in forest ecosystem structure and function.
Much of my work has been historical in nature: using historical
documents (survey records, photographs, census data) to reconstruct
land-use/cover change over the past few centuries, and examining
the legacies of anthropogenic and natural disturbance on forest
composition and the provisioning of ecosystem services such
as carbon storage. At a practical level, I am interested in
interdisciplinary approaches to applied conservation issues,
and working with local communities to identify trade-offs
between human livelihoods and ecosystem services in human-dominated
landscapes.
